Anyone who wishes to be trained in the basic life support techniques to provide assistance until advanced cardiac care responds
- Any certified diver who would like to advance in dive training by participating in the SDI Rescue Diver or leadership level programs
Course prerequisites:
- Minimum age 18, 10 with parental consent

- When do you administer oxygen
- Oxygen for a non-breathing victim
- How to administer oxygen through an oro-nasal mask while performing CPR
- Oxygen for breathing victim
- Non-rebreather mask
- Demand valve mask
- Nitrox cylinder/regulator options
- Define Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Performing CPR
- Self protection
- Assess scene and victim – EMS and statement
- ABC’s
- Chin lift and gentle neck extension
- Rule of 2’s
- Continue CPR as long as needed
- Define first aid
- When and how must first aid be administered
- Define Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)*
*Note: Manufacturers manual must be followed for proper use of the AED.

- Emergency oxygen
- Set up and use of oxygen cylinder
- Use of different types of masks
- Perform CPR on a manikin
- First aid: treat a simulated injury for the following:
- Breathing absent
- Bleeding
- Broken bone
- Burns
- Bites
- Blows
What’s in it for you?
The student will be qualified at the end of this specialty to:
- Recognize and evaluate an emergency situation and a victim
- Know how to activate or alert the emergency medical services (EMS)
- Be able to provide 1 person adult CPR, administer the proper first aid to a non-breathing or injured person, and administer O2 to a breathing or non-breathing person
- Proper use an automatic external defibrillator (AED)
SDI CPROX1stAED Administrator minimum requirements:
The student will be qualified at the end of this specialty to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of oxygen administration, first aid, CPR and the use of an AED
- Recognize and evaluate an emergency situation
- Know how to activate or alert the emergency medical services (EMS)
- Be able to provide CPR, use an AED unit, and administer oxygen to breathing or non-breathing person
- Be able to provide first aid for two simulated injuries
Note: The certification is valid for 2 years and must be renewed
